Gasometrica

The interior design project has intimately interwoven functional and formal aspects through a bespoke design that reveals simple yet striking lines.
The narrative underpinning the project explores the relationship between the interior design and the exterior views, as the landscape is strongly defined by the presence of Italgas’s majestic gasometers—a legacy of industrial Turin that is almost constantly visible from the apartment’s windows.
The diamond-shaped grid of the gasometer structure has been simplified into a composition of triangles and extended along the living room’s solid wall. This is not a fictional set design, but actual bracing that supports the shelves and the large full-height door. The industrial aesthetic is accentuated by the choice of tubular lamps and the use of translucent polycarbonate to clad the door and kitchen columns. These materials are enhanced by the presence of Carrara marble and lacquer finishes. The yellow color aims to depart from a purely “industrial” aesthetic, bringing a touch of vibrancy and reminding us how that past now takes on new connotations.
The lines of the exterior landscape and the new interior landscape merge, uniting the legacy of a past that no longer exists with a vision of the future that the neighborhood is embracing, including through the conversion of industrial buildings.
