R3 Architetti has developed a division dedicated exclusively to graphic representation and visual communication, R3disegno. R3 Architetti’s graphics are developed around three simple concepts: composition, to create a pleasant and balanced image; narration, to represent only what is important to communicate; and style, to maintain consistency and recognisability throughout the R3 project. R3 also created the illustrations for Zanichelli’s “Artemondo” textbook by Emanuela Pulvirenti, an art history book for lower secondary school.
More than 200 illustrations were produced, proving particularly effective due to the combination of drawings and architectural models, which required an architect’s eye for their accurate representation. As the book is primarily intended for middle school students, the approach to graphic representation led to a process of simplifying the elements and using a more illustrative and less technical visual language. The drawings were divided into four communication categories:
– chapter comprehension diagrams
– simplified diagrams of the artworks
– architectural diagrams
– representations of major artworks
