Corte Alfieri

The project @cortealfieri involved the conversion of an office building into 70 residential units located in the heart of Turin, just a short walk from the Alfieri Theater, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. It is precisely this sense of closeness that inspired a project based on a theatrical reinterpretation of the 19th-century courtyard. From an introverted space lacking a distinct identity, the building’s courtyard has become the focal point of the new project—a stage flanked by theater balconies, whose open curtain is represented by a system of vertical slats that grow denser at the corners of the courtyard and open up at the center of each side.
The project made the most of the opportunities offered by the existing structure. For example, the exterior towers of the elevator shafts have been converted into panoramic terraces for the penthouses, integrated into the courtyard’s steel framework
