The central element is the large loggia on the south façade, oriented toward Monviso, conceived as a mediating space between interior and exterior, between the private sphere and the collective dimension of the landscape. A careful recomposition of the south façade led to the enlargement of some openings without altering their overall number. The openings thus become true optical devices, capable of framing ever-changing portions of the Alpine landscape and establishing a selective and measured relationship with the surrounding context. . . . A fundamental role is ultimately entrusted to the materials, selected with particular attention to their origin and their capacity to ensure continuity with the original construction. The stone used for the three pillars on the street-facing façade comes from the recovery of the pre-existing structure, just as the lose from the original roof have been reused for the flooring of the basement level. A choice that strengthens the connection between the project, construction memory, and the local context, giving the building a new life without severing its relationship with its own history—strongly defined from a typological and constructive standpoint, and embraced not as a formal constraint but as a generative matrix for the design. . . . The interior spaces are arranged over two levels: the living area on the level of the loggia and the sleeping area on the upper floor. The plan layout is governed by two main principles. The first is represented by a compact service volume, which accommodates all secondary spaces — kitchen, bathrooms, staircase, and circulation — freeing up the rest of the plan, reserved exclusively for the main rooms. The second principle, more evident in section, is that of “interior–exterior”. A full-height space is interposed between the dwelling and the loggia, transforming the façade into a true internal screen and overturning the traditional perception of enclosed and open space. . . .
