Straw^3

The envisioned structure finds its main strengths in the combination of form, functional flexibility and the thoughtful use of materials.
The elementary nature of the form, in its closed configuration, conceals a certain degree of spatial complexity when the individual faces of the cube rotate around their median.
This system allows a single modular solution to define nine different functions, each corresponding to different spatial configurations depending on how the rotations are combined, as shown in the drawings.
The structural frame of the project is made of glulam timber with steel connections, while two fixed horizontal panels and the four rotating walls (around a central steel pivot) consist of a timber frame with straw infill enclosed between two sheets of Plexiglas.
The building-services system that ensures the module’s operation and water and energy self-sufficiency is housed within the two roof and floor panels, as well as in the compartments enclosed by the metal casings.
